Check out my friend's blog (The Abandoned Blog) when you can. Being a writer, he does a much better job of updating his blog than I do.
Michael and I will be working on a comics project together in the very near future. He's got a dynamite script and I'm very excited about working with him to bring it to life visually. Go check him out!
All the best!

Web site relaunched
There's still some testing to do but I've reworked my web site. There's more content on the home page. I've removed the flash from the art portfolio area so that visitors can see more thumbnails at a glance and randomly pick which image to view. I think this allows more freedom to more quickly browse.
The portfolio images now pop up over the page much larger than before. Most of the images are about twice the size of the former site. I'd love to get feedback from those of you who take the time to check it out. Are the images now too large? I'm working on a 24" iMac with the resolution turned way up so I can see all of the images in Firefox and Safari.
If you have a few minutes to spare, please go to www.robertelrodllc.com and click around. Let me know if you like what you see. Let me know if you see any issues or anything that annoys you. I'm going to try to do a better job of maintaining / updating the site going forward. The design portfolio section hasn't been updated in quite a while. I have several projects that I'm thinking of adding to better showcase my abilities. Right now I've got multiple projects nested behind those thumbnails and that may be confusing so I'll be breaking those apart sometime soon. I've also added a downloadable tearsheet of my illustration work. Of course, I put that together a few months ago and it may need to be updated because of the amount of new work I've done. The good news there is that it's just a matter of updating a PDF and not recoding anything on the site.
Please let me know your thoughts when you have a free moment.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Revivor from James Knapp's "State of Decay"

Here's a new piece of artwork that I did yesterday in support of James Knapp's upcoming novel "State of Decay". This is colored pencil on 9"x12" Strathmore Artagain paper. Check out James' uber-cool work. You will not be disappointed. Here's a link to a sample chapter from "State of Decay".
All the best!

Case #1008

Here's a piece that I'd started Friday evening and finished Saturday just before the Zombie Engagement party / Halloween art show opened. This piece is 16"x20" (plus frame) colored pencil on gatorboard. It's a personal favorite of mine now and I hope it'll be one of yours as well. My apologies for the pitiful photography. I use a digital point-and-click camera. As always, click on the photos to see them larger.
All the best!

"Brother, Can You Spare Some Brains?"

"Brother, Can You Spare Some Brains?" is my latest piece. This one is 16"x20" (plus frame) colored pencil on gatorboard. This is my largest piece to date. I will have this piece (and others) at tomorrow night's "Zombie Engagement Party" at The Bar Standard (1037 Broadway, Denver, CO 80203). The show starts at 8pm and goes until 2am. I, and many other artists, will be doing some live art during the show. Come in costume and admission is $5. No costume is $10 to get in. 15% of sales will go to benefit The Rocky Mountain Cancer Research Center Foundation and the Sox Place. Come out, have a good time and help these good causes.
All the best!

Bride of Frankie colored pencil piece

I did this new piece during the Ultimate Horror Weekend show for Dirk Strangely. I swapped him for some of his prints. I think we each felt we got the better deal. That's always a good way to go. Until he sends me a good scan of the piece, here's a photo that I took of it. I didn't do the best job with the photo. I'm sure the scan will look better.
Hope you like it.

Ultimate Horror Weekend

Here are a few shots of my table from the show. I sold a few things and met a lot of great people. As you can see, my cousin Melissa stopped by to hang out with me for a little while. Her daughter Amanda and Amanda's boyfriend Matt were also there. It was great to see them all.
I had the pleasure of seeing Ghoultown perform. I also caught part of Psychocharger's set. Both were killer. Really diggin' Psychocharger's CD.
Overall the show was good for networking but not for sales. It's always good to show my work to those who've not seen it before. I was disappointed that more of the celebrities didn't find time to walk through the vendor room. I think the only celebrity (beyond the bands performing) that I got to see was Bill Hinzman. He introduced Ghoultown and then was cool enough to hang out for a few minutes and take photos with a few people in the audience. I didn't respond quickly enough to get a shot with him myself unfortunately. Hopefully I won't be so brain dead next time.
I picked up prints from my new friend Dirk Strangely and pendants from the incredibly talented and cool Zombie Head. Check 'em out. You'll dig 'em too!
All the best!
