"Green Initiative" inks

Here's a newly inked piece (inked it last night) that I'll be coloring tomorrow. This one, like the last one I'd posted, features Green Lantern and Clayface. This time I've thrown in the unconscious form of Green Arrow. I got some new pens and used this as a test piece for them. I think, overall, that I like the results. I used a brush to do the cave texturing ... I instantly regretted not making GL's protective bubble solid behind him as I worked the texturing in and out of the strands of light that are creating the bubble. Clouds will be added in digitally. I plan to have the original art as well as color print in my portfolio at San Diego Comic Con. I'm supposed to have table space in Artists' Alley and hope to see you there!

All the best!

"Lights Out" digital painting

Green Lantern at the mercy of Clayface? Or is he? This new digital painting doesn't give a definitive answer. I started out penciling a comic book cover page but decided that I wanted to do a digital painting first. I still plan to finish penciling and inking the pinup and will post it at a late date.

Hope you enjoy this.

"The Ghost of Zzyzx Road" digital painting

This is a digital painting to accompany the story of the same title by 'Rox' Jayme Roxann Wright. The plan is for it to appear in a collection of her stories alongside the original text. You can find her on Facebook as well as MySpace. She's a gifted writer and would welcome you as a reader.

Hope you enjoy the artwork.

"Radd" digital painting

Yes, it's Norrin Radd the Silver Surfer. I'm calling it "Radd" because I like the sound of it. Hope you like the looks of it. This is a new digital painting that I just finished. No, I've not slept yet and am exhausted as you'd probably guess. I'm going to get some sleep now.

As always comments are welcome.

All the best!

UPDATE: I've added a scan of the old sketch here as well to show you what I started with.

"Roll the Credits"

Here's a quick digital sketch / painting that I worked up. I waffled on what to put in or in front of the big fire. I did silhouettes of several different monsters, Jack Skellington and Darth Vader ... individually, of course. I felt the background was a little too "real" for Jack Skellington and I wasn't happy with the Darth Vader. I was working without reference so that probably played a huge part in my final decision. I'm guessing the fact that I started working on either of those characters means I'll be creating pieces featuring them at some point. Probably sooner than later. I do love them both.

Have a great day!

"Marsh Madness" colorized

This was fun to colorize and I hope you enjoy it. Marvel Comics' Man-Thing vs. The Vision in what I call "Marsh Madness". Click the preview image to see it larger ... as with all of the images I've posted here in my blog.

"Hellbound Vitruvian"

Here's a new piece that I finished Friday but was too busy to post. It's a take on Leondaro Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man using my characters. I call it "Hellbound Vitruvian" and it was commissioned by Chuck Messinger of Comic Evolution. Colorized version in the works. I'll post it soon.

All the best!

"Marsh Madness" inked

I know it's been a while since I posted the penciled version of this piece ... and yes, I did ink all of the 14" width (the original is 14"x17" on bristol) but I only scanned 12" of the width. My scanner will do 12"x17" in one piece. Piecing this together was a possibility but, in the end, will anyone really care? Let me know if you care. If enough people respond as caring, I'll go back and scan the other 2" and try to match up the pieces.

This one's called "Marsh Madness" and is a confrontation between Marvel Comics' Man-Thing and Vision characters. I've probably spent something like 13-14 hours on this. That's a guess. There was a lot of starting and stopping. I hope you enjoy it. I'll be colorizing this one after I get through with a commissioned piece that I'd meant to work on a few days ago. Gotta get my priorities figured out.

All the best!
